COURSE NOTES
A Fictionary course set in northern California.

CLIPNOTES by Ben Bateson (ousgg)

Description
Fictional, ocean course
Location
This has the feel of Spyglass Hill or similar West Coast regions.
Conditions
Should play well on F*/M*
Concept  9/10
Something of a cult favourite, certainly on the far-side of fictional, but also featuring two of the most creative stretches in the game, J Milne\'s Best has received a deserved overhaul here with a massively improved texture set that helps tone down some of the original\'s madness. Thankfully, the creativity has been maintained, as has the storytelling that takes the course out of the woods and along the coastline for its pinnacle holes.
Appearance  8/10
Although the new texture set is sterile, it is a vast improvement on the oddball originals, and the sense of fun in playing with the beach, cliffs and assorted rockworks is evident. There are some cute moments by the lakeside as well, looking at the reeds and the log surrounds. A low-res tree or two still remains, but it\'s hardly anything to spoil the view.
Playability  9/10
Perhaps a couple of basic ideas come up once more than they should, but there\'s a rollocking selection of holes here. It\'s almost impossible not to find something to love, whether it\'s cheeky design ideas, sprawling three-tier greens, gamble-or-die Par 5s, or the unique visuals of the lagoon. A must-have.
Challenge  7/10
Most of the fun doesn\'t come cheap, and the scale of the course is such that Par is a tough score. Tight bunker-positioning and some skinny fairways are an expected hazard: a few tough lies off the woodland and the beach are not so much.
Technical  9/10
This should stand up there as one of the best in Matt\'s series of updates. The fantastical setting is a good canvas for his skills, and the original course had a couple of glaring problems which were ripe for tuning. J Milne\'s Best finally has enough consistency to have mainstream appeal.
Overall A well-sculpted and impressively updated fantasy course with some unique ideas. 42/50
